Heavy legs in summer: causes, advice and solutions to feel comfortable again

In summer, the feeling of heavy legs is a common discomfort, especially when it is hot. It is often linked to less efficient venous circulation, helped by the widening of the veins. Luckily, simple steps can improve daily comfort.

Why do we get heavy legs when it is hot?

Heat makes the blood vessels widen. This can slow venous return and lead to a feeling of heaviness, or even swelling in the legs. This is well documented in chronic venous insufficiency.

To help manage the Effects of heat, especially in Summer, here are some recommendations: to limit the widening of the veins and the symptoms of venous insufficiency:1

Advice no. 1: Limit exposure to the sun and heat
Avoid staying in the sun for too long, especially during the hottest hours of the day. Also avoid strong heat sources, such as saunas and steam rooms. Heat makes the 2veins widen and can increase the feeling of heavy legs.2

Advice no. 2: Drink enough water
Good hydration helps the body work well. Try to drink regularly during the day, even without feeling thirsty. And it is summer, so also choose fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables, such as kiwi, red berries and citrus fruit. Dried fruit is also rich in antioxidants, such as vitamins C and E, which tone the 3veins.4

Advice no. 3: Wear loose clothes
If your clothes feel too tight, they are probably not right for you. They may press too much on your body, causing discomfort and local vein problems. So try to wear loose, light clothes 5that feel comfortable.

Advice no. 4: Run cold water over your legs
Cool water helps tighten the blood vessels and restart circulation. You can finish your shower with a spray of cold water on your legs.2

Advice no. 5: Raise your legs when resting
When you are resting, raising your legs can make it easier for blood to return to the Heart and reduce the feeling of heaviness.2

Advice No. 6: Use suitable compression
Compression 6stockings or socks apply the right mean to the legs. They support the veins and help blood circulate better, even in summer. To stay comfortable 3and efficient in cummer, the materials should be light, breathable, transparent and not too thick.

Several Venoflex ranges are suitable because we use materials made for sear in summer: natural fibers or plant-based fibers that bring softness and respect the Skin. Linen is light, soft, breathable and helps control heat. Cotton is strong, with a good ability to absorb moisture and resist UV rays. We also use special fibers that can, for example, limit feelings of heat and provide airflow, while helping to absorb and move away sweat.

Fully discreet: the products are light and transparent, so they are suitable for summer.

Do not hesitate to contact a medical professional if you feel Heavy legs.

Enjoy your summer!
