Freedom to move, regained independence.

SpryStep® Agilik™ KAFO, the smart, custom-made orthosis that supports your knee, ankle and foot with every step.

Thanks to its microprocessor-controlled smart system, the SpryStep® Agilik™ KAFO orthosis is a non-invasive mobility solution that detects your movements in real time and assists with knee flexion and extension to improve your gait performance1. This allows you to walk more naturally and improve your posture without limiting your movements2,3.

With its dedicated app, you can track your progress and easily share your data with your healthcare professional for personalised monitoring based on real data.

This exclusive technology was developed as part of a cooperative research and development agreement with the National Institutes of Health (NIH, Bethesda, USA).

Our goal is to help people
Stand Taller and Walk Stronger™

The SpryStep® Agilik™ KAFO smart orthosis moves with the wearer, providing dynamic knee assistance and resistance when needed during a patient’s gait.
  • Walk further and faster (1,2)

You expend less energy6 , improve your fitness, balance and coordination, and reduce the need for a wheelchair.

  • Regain an active posture (3)

You exert less force in your movements, which can reduce fatigue9 , joint deterioration10 and the progression of muscle contractures3.

  • Adapt the support to your needs

Working with a specialised clinician the level of control required will be optimised and can be adapted as needed with changing conditions. The same Agilik component can be used as a child grows.

  • Improve your stride length (7)

You walk more naturally. Your knee has a greater range of motion, extending better with each step8 and bending more easily while walking2.

  • Share and progress together

You are never alone; your progress is monitored by a Thuasne®-certified healthcare professional, and the support provided is tailored to your needs throughout your evolution.

  • Facilitate knee extension and flexion (2,7)

You walk more easily5 and safely thanks to real-time movement detection, and you are assisted in bending and extending your knee.

SpryStep® Agilik™ KAFO supports adults and children aged 5 and above.

The SpryStep® Agilik™ KAFO orthosis is designed for patients with leg weakness causing walking difficulties. It may be indicated, in particular, in cases of cerebral palsy (crouch gait), muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, incomplete spinal cord injury or hemiparesis after a stroke, etc.

It is available from the age of 5 for both children and adults, provided they are able to understand and follow simple instructions and walk at least three metres, with or without walking aids.

The final decision on use always rests with the therapist or clinician, who assesses the physical and cognitive abilities of each patient.

Discover how the SpryStep® Agilik™ KAFO empowers patients to reclaim movement and joy in their everyday lives.
Guided by the passion and commitment of Jack Wilson, each fitting becomes a unique journey toward greater independence, confidence, and renewed hope for what lies ahead.

Frequently asked questions

  • Each patient is unique and progresses at their own pace. It is therefore difficult to answer this question precisely. Our role is to adjust the treatment to your needs and provide tailored follow-up to every stage of the journey.

First, our certified Healthcare Professional needs to check that you are a good candidate for a motorized KAFO thanks to a testing device. This testing device is universal to different anatomies and isn’t as comfortable as your final orthosis, but it gives you an initial impression of what it’s like to walk with the SpryStep® Agilik™ KAFO. If you and our Healthcare Professional agree, a custom KAFO (Knee Ankle Foot Orthosis) is fabricated based on a cast of your leg.

You will need to learn how to use the SpryStep® Agilik™ KAFO and Thuasne® will support you on each step and make all the adaptations throughout your learning path.

  • The SpryStep® Agilik™ KAFO  is available from the age of 5. You must weight above 20 kg / 44 lbs and below 135 kg / 300 lbs. Concerning your pathology, the SpryStep® Agilik™ KAFO is intended for patients with lower extremity weakness resulting in gait pathology such as, but not limited to crouch gait from a diagnosis of cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, or incomplete spinal cord injury or post stroke hemiparesis. Your eligibility will be assess by your Healthcare Professional.

  • Yes. Check that your pants fit closely to avoid wrinkles, which can lead to skin irritation or pressure sores.

  • Driving while the device is connected to the battery is not permitted. The ability to drive a vehicle with the device must be assessed by a Healthcare Professional and according to local regulations.

  • The orthotist adjusts the SpryStep® Agilik™ KAFO for one heel height, and you should then maintain that. A comfortable, wide shoe with stiff posterior heel cup and laces or self-fastenings tabs. For example, trainers or athletic shoes are the best type of shoes with the SpryStep® Agilik™ KAFO.

  • The SpryStep® Agilik™ KAFO is water resistant, but not waterproof. Meaning, you cannot shower, bathe, or swim wearing the orthosis, but will be okay if you get caught in the rain.

  • You have to use the user app on your mobile phone to switch from the walking to the stair descent mode for example. Moreover, a rehabilitation set-up can also be programmed and you can launch it during physio sessions for instance.

  • The rules for funding and reimbursement vary from country to country. Our Healthcare Professional will explain the potential local reimbursements to you or guide you with discussions with your private insurance.
